Dodged getting BF'd when Mith went for that about 10-12h ahead of when I thought he would, then dodged getting BF'd 12h after thanks to Rio's sui threat and the other Demons in range being way less defended. Didn't join the Discord this round, which was weird but justified after seeing what the OD server had to say after last round. My opinion on the Dommunity is expressed in bold letters down below.
Went Demon, incredibly bland race to the point I think Human has more flavour to it. Maybe Wood Elf is close, but at least they have actual land dependency to think about.
Realm fed a ton. Some AC-drops, some... Opportunistic suis by people. (Hi Erix!) Wasn't sure about comparative stats while Bobbo and Disco were in the mix, but it never felt like they were limiters, though possibly sui threats because Lizardfolk. Round developed fairly balanced for FA, meaning it was unlikely to be a FA runaway round barring something strange happening. (Day 5 OP/DP stats on people were essentially within 3 % of each other on all accounts.) JC in #11 eventually won out, but wasn't going to run.
6 and 8 Vamps entered radar around day 20. Khepri / Mith was always the bigger threat and was appropriately defended against blops, though the path remained narrow IMO. Sit for too long and the efficient Doms - Focke / Vinn's Orc, the lot in #4, or some Troll I hadn't yet identified at the time, which would coalesce into Papa Troll / Rio - would have the ability to keep up and later blast past. Didn't happen, JC made the error of going for a(nother on the realm I landed in) AC drop hit and that was it. Scion cemented the runaway, but even without it, it was borrowed time.
Still not sure what went on with the double snare on #4 though. The first, sure, we know Dwarf is a poor chaser into runaway range, but the second on their Goblin?!
Dodged getting BF'd when Mith went for that about 10-12h ahead of when I thought he would, then dodged getting BF'd 12h after thanks to Rio's sui threat and the other Demons in range being way less defended. I was more acres (~225a to the ~190a of the bottom one in range) but also up to 80k DP more pretemps and generally higher mods. That was it, though.
Then kept exploring, and exploring, and exploring. Got pipped from 9th by the late disable and ended 11th with the Bounty Hunter title. Didn't have that yet, neat. Made sure to annoy Rio (not that I knew that) at the last hitting hour via draft stabbing because there was a theoretical full-release-sui-me-option maybe possible - though I think other explorers were actually possible. Still, last hitting hour is a recipe for chaos.
Other notes from the round:
- The second raid was wildly imbalanced with day 1 being terrible for realms with heavy attacking presence and day 3 being atrocious for low-attacking realms.
- Blop threat assessment among explorer realms is still 'you first, no you first' after week 1.
- Planar Gates is a very nasty wonder to keep track of. Interesting addition.
Lastly, for those who didn't use an actual search engine to look it up during the round - I imagine ChatGPT et al might think it a real gone-to-court case instead of reality - here's the Wikipedia entry on one of Private Eye's many encounters with libel law.
In the 1971 case of Arkell v Pressdram, Arkell's lawyers wrote a letter which concluded: "His attitude to damages will be governed by the nature of your reply." Private Eye responded: "We acknowledge your letter of 29th April referring to Mr J. Arkell. We note that Mr Arkell's attitude to damages will be governed by the nature of our reply and would therefore be grateful if you would inform us what his attitude to damages would be, were he to learn that the nature of our reply is as follows: fuck off."
